Welcome to Viviparous.org.uk

This is a website dedicated to all levebearing fish around the world.
Their are a number of common livebearers from the guppy, molly, platy and swordtail.
All their fish have their wild ancestors which may not be as colourful, but these fish have their hidden beauty and here you can appreciate these fish.

Now I've mentioned a few of the common livebearers but their are a number of other's across the world. Some sharks, rays and freshwater rays are other livebearers that are not commonly know as giving birth to live young.

How ever these are not common to the hobby, but freshwater rays are now becoming much more common.

Potamotrygon falkneri
Above photo from
www.stingrayuk.co.uk

However the most common class of livebearer in the hobby are what's called Poeciliidae These are a family of fish that originate all across North America and the uppers region's of South America.

In this family their at least 350 species of fish. This Includes the common Guppy, Platy, Molly and Swordtail. The Swordtail genus Xiphophorus contains about 40 species of fish, but this is always changing as new species are being found every now and then.

Xiphophorus nezahualcoyotl

The other genus which is not quite so common are the Goodeide, These only come from Mexico and are very rare in the hobby. Their are just over 40 species in this family and in the natural habitat their are many problem with pollution and introduces species out competing the native species.

Allodontichthys zonistius

This is a new site at www.fisharkmexico.org which is setup by Ivan Dibble which is dedicated to saving Goodeide's as well as many other species of fish across Mexico.

Now why should you join Viviparous.org.uk?

This a completely free site and all we ask is that you join in our forums and help other people and to keep some of these livebearers going in the hobby, also your welcome to donate some money buy Clicking here , This money goes directly into looking after this site and keeping out adverts as much as possible.

To register then please click here

If you would like to place an advert on this site then email Alan from here.

Thanks for reading this so far and enjoy looking around

Whilst I am on a roll, here is a photo of Limia grossidens. It looks very similar to Limia nigrofasciata and I have no idea what the difference between the two is.

Characodon lateralis & Limias melanogaster & nigro

Hi all. I'm Cris and I'm new to this forum & to breeding livebearers (though not to fishkeeping).
What can anyone tell me about the Goodeid Characodon lateralis and about Limia melanogaster and L. nigrofasciata? My Limias arrive in a few days and I recently came across these Goodeids and they caught my fancy... so thinking of getting some too. I googled the C. lateralis but I think there's nothing like listening to the experts... who else is going to know how to keep these fish happy?
Thanks.

I managed to get a few reasonable photos of my Pseudoxiphophorus anzeutoi over the weekend.

We collected anzuetoi from three locations in Guatemala, but these ones, from a place called Puente Matazano look the most like the ones I have seen in Aqualog.

Although the female is hiding behind the plant, you can clearly see her darkened lateral stripe.
