Welcome to the New Viviparous Web siteIn 1987 Viviparous started life as The Livebearer Information Service and its primary objective was to circulate information to livebearer enthusiasts or anyone who wanted to further their knowledge in this group of fish. The Internet was in the future as far as the hobby was concerned and the way in which this information was circulated at that time was through the magazine Viviparous. The magazine over the years has contained over 102 information sheets with colour photographs. In the modern era we need to use this asset (the internet) to promote our hobby to far away places. This New Viviparous web site is virtually a magazine on line but not the same one as the one that will come through your letterbox quarterly if you subscribe. For Viviparous L.I.S. also exists in the real world with several auctions a year and a convention. This is where you can meet other enthusiasts and exchange fish and, if you are new to the hobby, wonder at the range of livebearers available to you that you have not seen before. Information on this site will guide you through the maze of the Livebearer World. The hobby of fish-keeping is enjoyed by many people in many different ways I have enjoyed many aspects of fish-keeping at various times and, as an observer of others have seen that aquarists enjoy their hobby differently. Many aquarists enjoy fish shows:- all of them do not necessarily show fish, for the shows are meeting places for fellow aquarists and, if you specialise, a place for meeting others who are interested in other groups of fish. It is an opportunity to share your experiences and learn from each other. It is an opportunity to see some beautiful fish in peak condition. A showman can be a person who has bred and grown his fish to be the very best of the species seen around. Some people are always chasing after the latest fashion in fish and if this makes them happy, why not- as long as there are others who keep and breed fishes for the joy of it.A new species can, to the hobbyist be very interesting and if this interest is fleeting he/she passes the species on. One of the the many facets of the hobby enjoyed by many is the breeding and rearing of fry which can be arduous, rewarding and interesting. In this fascinating hobby of ours there is room for us all, so let’s give each other a little space. Why not fill in a space on this site by telling others how you enjoy your livebearer hobby, what you put into it and what pleasure you derive from it. Why have you chosen livebearers in preference to any other group? Have you got favourite species,? Have you any tips that you can pass on to others? What would you like featured on this your on line livebearer magazine? The Team at L.I.S. want the NEW Viviparous site to be a truly interactive site of shared experiences. As well as a valuable information source. Pat Lambert, retiring editor and founder of Viviparous - The Livebearer Information Service |
